New Year 2019 WLC Week 1 Mobility

Tight hips? Not shocking since we spend so much of our time in a seated position. Restricted hip mobility can actually be the cause of back or knee pain. Here are a few stretches you can do help loosen your hips.

Lying Hip Rotations - lie on your back with both knees bent. Cross your right ankle over the left knee. Rotate your right hip in and out (so the left knee moves toward the ground. You can also use your right hand to apply gentle pressure on your right knee. Repeat with the other leg.

Piriformis Stretch - lie on your back with both knees bent. Cross your right leg over your left, so the knee is crossed over your thigh. Pull your right knee toward your left shoulder.

Kneeling Lunge -  Sink into a reverse lunge position bringing your right knee to the ground. Keep your chest tall and tuck your pelvis under. To advance this stretch you can grab your right foot and pull it toward your right buttock or you can do this stretch with your right leg up against a wall or couch.

Pigeon Stretch - from downward dog position bring your right leg through so the knee is bent to a 90 degree angle with your left leg extended straight back. You can keep your hands on the floor or come down to your forearms or even bring your head down to the floor.
